"Dan Tranh" - 16-string zither

I first learned to play the 16-string zither or “đàn tranh” not merely out of a love for music, but from a quiet desire to find peace within myself. One day, I brought that music to the National Children’s Hospital—where tiny souls, fragile in body yet resilient like wildflowers growing through stone, were quietly battling illnesses far beyond their years. As I played, I saw eyes lift toward me as if dreaming; I saw little hands gently tapping along with the rhythm. The music did not make the pain disappear, but in that moment, I believed it softened the fear.

I did not come hoping for miracles. I came with a single wish: that the sound of the đàn tranh might reach some quiet corner of their hearts. That perhaps, just for a few moments, the notes could carry them away—to a place where light dances on rice fields and the wind hums lullabies. In those shimmering gazes and soft smiles, I found what I had long been seeking—peace, not only for them, but for myself.
